Mason Community Learning Center

The new Mason Community Learning Center, located on the site of Mason Park, opened for classes on January 22, 2008, and was dedicated on February 9.   The new building can be accessed from E. Exchange St. or Crouse St.

old Academy at Robinson

Robinson Community Learning Center

The new Robinson Community Learning Center opened for classes on August 27, 2008, and was dedicated on September 4.   The old building has been demolished and that land will be developed into playground space and additional parking.

Hotchkiss School

Hotchkiss School

Hotchkiss Elementary School closed at the end of the 2005-2006 school year.   The building now functions as the Bridges Learning Center (previously housed in the Betty Jane School annex).
 

       SEGMENT 2

 
old Barber School

Barber Community Learning Center

The new Barber Community Learning Center opened for classes on Monday, January 4, 2010, and was dedicated on January 27.   Parking and student dropoff is located in the front of the new building facing Garry Rd.

East High

East High School

Construction of the East/Goodyear Community Learning Center began on March, 9, 2009.   Until renovation is complete, East students (grades 9-12) will ramain in the Central-Hower building.   Seventh and eighth graders, currently housed at Goodyear Middle School, will be moved to a new separate wing being built adjacent to the current East building.   Goodyear students will remain in their current building until the new wing is completed.

Parking has been moved to the front of the current East building along Brittain Rd.   A new cafeteria and kitchen will be added in the area of the current main office while new science labs will be added at the rear of the building.

Estimated completion date for the project is August, 2010.

Projected Cost:   $22,319,137.40

Goodyear Middle School

Goodyear Middle School

Goodyear Middle School seventh and eighth graders will be moved to a new middle school wing being built adjacent to the renovated East High building.   Sixth graders will be incorporated into Barber, Mason, Robinson, and Seiberling Community Learning Centers.   The Goodyear building may be used as swing space for other schools and will eventually be demolished.

The new, two-story middle school wing is being constructed on property acquired to the south (towards E. Market St.) of the current East building.   Akron City Council authorized $275,000 for the purchase of those properties at 28 and 28 1/2 Brittain Rd.

Estimated completion date for the project is August, 2011.

       SEGMENT 3

 
Seiberling School

Seiberling School

Because of expected overcrowding at Seiberling when sixth graders from Goodyear are moved into the building, Seiberling's reconstruction has been moved up on the schedule.   Plans call for a new Seiberling Community Learning Center to be constructed on the existing site and the old school to be demolished.

The first community planning meeting will be held Thursday, February 18, at 6:00 p.m. at the school. .
