Budget Concerns Continue
for Akron Public Schools

If the Akron Public School System hopes to avoid financial difficulty, and possible oversight by the state, it will need to reduce its budget by $11,000,000 over the next three fiscal years.

To help identify where additional reductions could be made, the district has asked the Ohio State Auditor's office to conduct a review of the school district's budget .

3/24/26 UPDATE:
At the March 23 Board of Education meeting staff and parents expressed their opposition to the proposed staff reductions to help balance the budget.

4/13/26 UPDATE:
At the April 13 Board of Education meeting the members voted 5-2 to reject the Superintendent's recent budget cut proposals.

5/12/26 UPDATE:
At the May 11 Board of Education meeting the members voted 6-1 to accept the Superintendent's plan to cut $11,000,000 from the district's budget for the upcoming school year.   Included in the plan is the elimination of 17 staff positions.

6/22/26 UPDATE:
At the June 22 Board of Education meeting the members voted to re-instate 15 of the 17 staff position reductions proposed by the Superintendent in May.
