David Hill Added
to Academic Watch List

East remains listed, but improves

School performance is constantly under review by both the U. S. Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Education.

States are required by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) to identify schools that need to improve.   States then have to get approval from the U.S. Department of Education for how it will identify, offer support, and hold accountable schools that are struggling.   The agency responsible for reviewing Ohio schools is the Office of School and District Improvement.

Newly added to the state's list of schools on the watch list is David Hill.   The school tested in the bottom 5% of Ohio schools for the 2021-22 school year and has been added to the category of Comprehensive Support and Improvement Schools (CSI).

East, previously on the CSI list, has shown improvement and may possibly be removed from the list as soon as this coming school year.

Keith Liechty-Clifford of the Akron Public Schools Office of School Improvement stated that the District was already aware of these problems.
