East Leads in Certifications

Members of the Akron Public Schools' graduating classes of 2019 earned a total of 1,440 industry certifications by the time they finished their senior year.

Examples of the industry-standard credentials earned were in such career pathways as customer service, automotive service, Microsoft Office, phlebotomy, and Adobe Photoshop.

The large number of certifications is part of the school district's implementation of its College and Career Academy format.   "For our companies who need trained people, we're really focusing on a lot of these industry credentials," stated Akron Schools superintendent David James.

Of interest to the East Cluster is the fact that of the 1,440 career-area certifications earned, 435 were earned by East High graduates.   Firestone grads earned 288, while Buchtel earned 248.
