East Girls Take Pride
in New Superintendent

Akron Beacon Journal education columnist, Jennifer Pignolet, recently sat down with four East students to discuss issues of race.   The students were senior, Zanetta Walker, junior, JaNiyah Carter, sophomore, Keyonna Spear, and freshman, Brooklynn Diener.

What the four have in common besides being East students is that they are all female and all Black.

The four discussed how proud they are to have East High grad, Christine Fowler-Mack, as the first female Superintendent of the Akron Public Schools.

The four also expressed concern that during all their years of schooling they have encountered very few teachers and administrators who look like they do.

Here is the whole story as printed in the Akron Beacon Journal.
