Contract with Finney terminated

Vyrone Finney At its July 24 meeting the Akron Board of Education voted 6-0 to officially fire former East principal, Vyrone Finney, as the result of an incident from 2019 at which time he was accused of hitting a student.

At a subsequent trial, Finney was found not guilty of assault charges.

Despite that, the Board terminated Finney's contract for violating school district policy.

Finney has filed a $1,000,000 federal lawsuit for wrongful termination.   Named in the lawsuit are the Akron Board of Education, school district officials, police who arrested him, and officials at East.
