Biting Into Better Nutrition

The Akron Public Schools have been awarded a $316,594 grant from the Ohio Deptartment of Education's Office for Child Nutrition.   The money is to be used to provide fresh fruit and vegetables to the nine elementary schools selected to participate.

This grant is subject to the guidelines of the U.S. Deptartment of Agriculture's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program which requires the selected schools to offer fresh fruit and vegetables to all its students at least twice a week.

This added produce is provided in addition to existing school breakfast and lunch programs.

The three East Cluster schools selected to participate and their awards are as follows:

  • David Hill $22,405
  • Mason $20,190
  • Seiberling $32,760.
